The Outlet Sparked When I Plugged In My Charger

The INSIDER

I plugged my phone charger into the bedroom outlet and saw a small flash behind the plug.

I pulled it out fast and stood there staring at the wall.

The outlet had a faint burnt smell, like warm plastic.

I tried the lamp in the other outlet across the room and left that one alone.

When I called maintenance, they asked if the breaker had tripped.

It had not.

That somehow made me more nervous.

They told me not to use the outlet until someone could check it.

So I pushed my bed away from the wall, unplugged everything nearby, and spent the night looking at that outlet like it was waiting for round two.

Reality layer This is a recurring habitability problem, not just one gross sighting.

What this gets at

What’s actually happening here?

This points to a sanitation problem that is still active in the apartment. One sighting is not the real issue anymore.

Why does this usually get worse?

Cleanup without a real fix brings the signs back while everyone acts like the problem is over.

What do people usually do next?

Capture the repeat. Photos and message threads show this is still happening.

When does this cross a line?

This crosses a line when the signs keep returning after cleanup. A random sighting is different from an apartment people have to live around.
