The bedroom smelled like fresh paint when I got home.
At first I was happy someone had finally touched up the window trim.
Then I tried to open the window.
It did not move.
I unlocked it, pushed up with both hands, and felt the frame stick like it had been glued shut.
A thin line of paint had dried between the window and the sill.
I messaged maintenance and said the window would not open.
They replied that the paint needed time to cure.
That would have made sense if I had asked why it smelled.
I was asking why my bedroom window had become decoration.
Three days later, it was still sealed shut.
