I came into the lobby with grocery bags cutting into my hands and pressed the elevator button.
The little light came on.
Then nothing happened.
No doors. No ding. No movement on the floor display.
I pressed it again with my knuckle because my fingers were stuck under the bag handles.
The button stayed lit like it had accepted the request, but the elevator never showed up.
I waited a few more minutes, shifting the bags from one hand to the other.
Finally, I gave up and started up the stairs with everything digging into my palms.
The elevator button was still glowing behind me like it had done its job.
