She Moved In Without Ever Moving In

The INSIDER

I rented a room in my house to a guy.

Then he met someone on World of Warcraft and flew her out for what was supposed to be a couple weeks.

A couple weeks turned into months.

She watched my TV, sat in my recliner, and started treating the place like she lived there.

When I told him she needed to pay rent, he said she was still “on vacation.”

I told him vacation ended when she started DVR’ing shows.

That finally clicked.

He paid extra rent until they moved out a couple months later.

Reality layer This is one person's behavior affecting how everyone else can live in the space.

What this gets at

What’s actually happening here?

One person's behavior is now setting the terms for everyone else in the space. That is the real problem.

Why does this usually get worse?

The apartment stops feeling settled. Routine sounds or messages start reading like the next warning.

What do people usually do next?

Make the pattern specific. Screenshots, house rules, and concrete examples give the conflict some edges.

When does this cross a line?

This crosses a line when the apartment stops feeling even or livable for everyone else. Minor friction is different from that.
