The INSIDER

I stepped out of the bathroom in a towel and heard water running in the kitchen.

When I rounded the corner, maintenance was already at my sink with tools on the counter.

I froze and asked why he was inside.

He said the office sent him early for the work order.

I tried calling the office right there, still half-wet, but the phone loop kept sending me back to “leave a message.”

I asked him to step out for one minute so I could get dressed.

He sighed and said he was mid-check.

So I stood there holding a towel while maintenance kept working under my sink.

Reality layer This is a privacy problem, not just an awkward mistake.

What this gets at

What’s actually happening here?

Privacy inside the apartment is not being treated as firm. That is the real failure here.

Why does this usually get worse?

Once the entry is brushed off, every notice or sound starts feeling like the next repeat.

What do people usually do next?

Lock down the record. Dates, messages, and any camera proof make this harder to wave off later.

When does this cross a line?

This crosses a line when entry stops feeling clear and contained. One mix-up is different from a pattern people have to brace for.
