Hallway Light Was Marked Fixed While It Stayed Dark

The INSIDER

I came home after work and stopped outside my apartment because the hallway was still dark.

The light over my door had been out for three nights.

I could barely see the unit number, so I pulled out my phone flashlight just to unlock my door.

Before going inside, I opened the maintenance portal.

The request was marked completed that afternoon.

I refreshed the page while standing under the dead fixture.

Still completed.

I tried to submit the same issue again, but the portal kept snapping back to the closed request like someone had fixed it.

The hallway stayed dark, and my phone light was still doing the building’s job.

Been through this too?

If this happened to you too, mark it. You are not the only one.

once they crossed that line, it usually got worse.

The Dripping Vent Was Marked As Condensation The work order was still marked closed. The Mailroom Door Handle Came Off In My Hand The whole handle came off in my hand.
Reality layer This is an access problem, not just one inconvenient door moment.

What this gets at

What’s actually happening here?

Basic access to the apartment is no longer reliable. A home stops feeling secure once getting in depends on luck.

Why does this usually get worse?

Treating the lockout like bad luck leaves the same failure sitting there for the next exit.

What do people usually do next?

Pin down exactly what failed. Photos, timestamps, and messages about keys, codes, or doors keep this from turning into user error.

When does this cross a line?

This crosses a line when getting inside stops being dependable. A stubborn door is one thing; being stranded outside is another.
