I was walking back from the elevator with coffee in one hand when my shoe caught on the hallway carpet.
Not the edge of a mat.
A raised bubble had formed right in the middle of the runner.
My foot stopped, but the coffee kept going.
I caught myself on the wall before I fully fell, then stood there staring at the carpet like it had personally attacked me.
The bump was soft under my shoe, like the carpet had pulled loose from underneath.
A neighbor stepped around it and said she had tripped on it the day before.
I sent a photo to the office and asked them to tape it down or fix it.
Until then, everyone walked past that spot like it was a tiny speed bump inside the building.
